Whey protein isolate for dog with kidney disease?
Whey Protein Isolate for Dogs and Cats
I have a 8.5lbs chihuahua diagnosed with kidney disease. On renal support diet containing meat. Would the whey protein isolate be recommended? I have noticed weakness in hind quarters. I am concerned that my girl may need this but I don't want to give her an excess of protein? I have her on seaweed calcium, kidney tonic, multiglandular blend, Azodyl, Epakitin, and Renal Support soft food. She has improved greatly since visit to vet by my at home treatment! Yes, the Whey Protein Isolate would be a good choice for your dog with kidney disease. This supplement is a very bioavailable source of protein and low in phosphorus so it is safer for the kidneys compared with other sources of protein. It can also help to maintain her lean muscle mass. Under the Instructions Tab we tell you how much protein is in one tsp. You can use this information to replace some meat in your dog's diet with whey protein isolate. Information can be found online that will tell you how much protein is in a portion of the meat you are currently using. For example, there 8 grams of protein in one ounce of chicken breast. In this case you would use a little more than four teaspoons of whey protein to replace the chicken breast. You can then use some extra healthy high fiber veggies to take up some of the mass in the meal.
