The Seaweed Calcium is a very good choice as a calcium source for dogs with kidney disease because it is low in phosphorus. Seaweed calcium contains ~24 mg of phosphorus per teaspoon (3 grams) which is mixed into one pound of homemade dog food. Another way to lower dietary phosphorus for dogs with a kidney condition is to replace some meat with Whey Protein Isolate which is another low phosphorus food (~2.24 mg/g). There is also some information that I have read, though not researched further yet, that indicates boiling meat can significantly reduce phosphorus.
