The study that has created the idea that garlic is toxic to dogs and cats, and then has been magnified on the Internet by those that really do not understand the study, indicates that garlic consumed in extremely high concentrations can lead to changes in red blood cells. These changes go right back to normal when garlic ingestion is stopped. What consumers have to understand about that study is that the garlic fed to the study animals was in such high concentrations for a prolonged period of time that would be virtually impossible to consume in real life. You would need to feed large amounts of garlic for a period of time, then notice signs of anemia such as weakness, lethargy, pale gums, lack of appetite and then CONTINUE to feed those large amounts of garlic in order to hurt your pet. Garlic fed in the proper serving size to healthy dogs and cats, and not grossly overdone, is not only safe but very healthy! Just to make clear, safe levels of garlic are provided in the Herbal Protection Drops and we have fed garlic to our animals in one form or another for four decades.
