The occurrence of adverse reaction to Prickly Ash mainly result from the over-dosage or misuse of this herb. For example, dogs or cats that eat large amounts of the unripe berries or cattle that gorge on the plant when grazing can suffer gastrointestinal upset. And yes, there is a difference between different parts of the plant as the unripe berries are the primary culprit and are not used in our formula. Unfortunately, online the term "toxic" is used when symptoms of ingesting this herb in too large of a quantity are generally mild such as nausea and diarrhea. The amount of this herb used in the Gum Rescue formula is relatively small and so appropriate and safe. This herbal formula has been used by many hundreds of dogs and cats and we have not received any reports of adverse reactions to date, so we are quite confident this formula will be safe for your cat.
