If your dog is still not gaining weight after using these supplements for several weeks I would consider feeding a healthier, homemade diet and we provide some suggestions in our article How to Feed Your Dog. I would also consider a small kitchen scale so you can accurately measure the amount of food you are feeding with each meal. Slowly increase the amount of food you feed over time until you feel your dog is at a healthy weight. You might want to start out at 3% of your dog's body weight daily. So, for an average Shih-tzu that would weigh about 15 lbs this would equate to 7.2 ounces of food daily. I got to this number by multiplying 15 lbs by 16 to get ounces (16 ounces in a pound) which is 248 ounces, and then multiplied by .03 to get 3% of 248 ounces which is 7.2 ounces of food daily.
