The Bovine Cartilage supplement does not provide any significant amounts of protein or phosphorus that would impact a dog with kidney disease. However, as indicated this supplement does provide type II collagen that is so essential to support the structural integrity of the trachea. It is important not to lower the protein in a dog or cat's diet too much with the initial stages of kidney disease. Feeding a low protein diet will lead to muscle loss, including heart muscle loss, and this would have a significant impact on a dog with a structural weakness such as tracheal collapse. Focus on feeding a whole food diet and foods lower in phosphorus when dealing with kidney disease and we have some more information in our Holistic Kidney Disease Protocol.
