Unfortunately, your veterinarian is mistaken. Collagen is comprised primarily of types l and lll collagen peptides. Type I collagen constitutes about 80% of the dry weight of tendons and ligaments and is principally responsible for the core strength of these tissues. For tendon and ligament injuries you would primarily provide type l collagen peptides to support the healing and structural integrity of this type of tissue. Type II collagen supports the health of the cartilage found on the end of bones within joints called articular cartilage. Type ll collagen peptides are found in our Bovine Cartilage supplement. We find it useful to provide dogs and cats with both types of collagen to support the entire joint - inside and outside.
