Malassezia yeast is a normal part of an animal's skin flora. Normal balance within the body and a healthy immune response usually keep this yeast in check. When this yeast gets out of balance and becomes an issue it is usually related to an immune deficiency. The Antimicrobial formula is a good choice and I would use this for about two weeks. I would then begin a protocol that involves strengthening the overall health of your pet. Begin Astragalus Root on a five days on and two days off schedule long term to increase the body's vital force that includes the immune system. Consider our Systemic Enzymes that support the immune system, help reduce inflammation and also control yeast internally throughout the body. Consider our Daily Multi Plus that supplements the diet and increases digestion and absorption of nutrients from food. Lastly, consider a healthy, whole food diet that can be home-prepared, a raw/cooked prepared diet, or a premix to which you add your own meat. We offer some suggestions in our article How to Feed Your Dog. One more thing that I feel is very important to mention is to avoid the use of, or use with caution, antimicrobial shampoos. These products contain strong chemicals that can damage the delicate ecology of the skin creating chronic skin issues. We provide a selection of chemical-free shampoos if you are interested.
