Is impossible that St. John's Wort can make anxiety worse?
Anxiety Blend for Dogs and Cats
Hi! We have had our anxious/reactive dog on this blend for a few months. He seems to have become more anxious. Nothing else has changed in the household or daily schedule or food/supplements. I've talked to some humans who have said they tried St. John's and it made them more anxious/aggressive. I wondered if that can happen to canines? Either way, I need to ween him off of this now, and apparently, you have to do the over a week's?? time two weeks? For humans, my understanding is it is two weeks. Thanks!

I am sorry to hear that your dog is not doing well with the Anxiety Blend. This is certainly a paradoxical reaction and not ordinary for most dogs and cats (or people for that matter). It is believed that reactions like this are related to a neurotransmitter imbalance in the brain. St. John's Wort can affect serotonin levels and Valerian Root can affect GABA. If serotonin is previously elevated in the brain then an animal can have an inverse reaction to St. John's Wort. If GABA is previously elevated in the brain then an animal can have an inverse reaction to Valerian. Weaning him off slowly over two weeks should be appropriate.
