Flea and tick treatments like Advocate® contain neurotoxic pesticides that can damage a dog's neuromuscular system over time. We are not fans of these types of treatments because we work with many sick animals that we connect with the use of these types of medications. If you use this medication to prevent fleas you may wish to consider a safer alternative with the Internal Powder. If you use this medication for heartworm we prefer Heartgard® that we feel is safer. A healthy, whole food diet is very effective in naturally making a dog more resistant to fleas, and we offer some suggestions for doing this yourself or purchasing a prepared diet in our article How to Feed Your Dog.
