I am sorry to hear about your dog's recent diagnosis. If the medications that you mentioned in your question have been specifically prescribed for the laryngeal paralysis I don't see the benefits to address the underlying cause of lar par and this should be discussed with your veterinarian. The potential drawbacks may be a problem such as those with Trazodone® that include sedation that can be counter productive for a dog that has a neuromuscular condition. We provide an educational video on Laryngeal Paralysis in Dogs to help you better understand your dog's condition. We also provide a Laryngeal Paralysis Support Package to help support the function of your dog's neuromuscular system. We also recommend a healthy, whole food diet that provides nutrients to properly support your dog's muscle and nervous system. This diet can either be homemade or you can purchase a premix to which you add your own raw or cooked meat or a prepared diet and we offer some suggestions in our article How to Feed Your Dog. Lastly, flea and tick products contain powerful neurotoxins and we feel that these chemicals can damage an animal's neuromuscular system over time and for that reason should be avoided.
